Dance Recital

Yes, we had another recital to attend to this month. Lucy does Jazz and Hip Hop. This month seems to be all about Lucy, but it just that everything we do here ends in May, so it gets very busy with all the end of year plays, recital, band concerts, and sports. So here is Lucy doing her little poses. Her hip hop outfit was so ugly, all the girls hated it. They were supposed to be dolls attached to pretend strings. I liked the jazz costume and dance routine much better. But really, Lucy can pull off almost anything. She is looking so old to me now especially with a little make up on. Brittany decided it was too much for her to do dance and sports since at the middle school practice is everyday. I am so glad for summer, one more week of school for us and everything is over. Brandon has EFY planned and two basketball camps. Brittany and Lucy are doing Field Hockey Camp and Brittany also has a week of Girls Camp. Of course the family is coming from all over to visit in July. Happy Summer to you all!

Rachel Carlson Pond, Pemiquid, Maine

Lucy and I went on a field trip to Pemiquid, Maine to visit the Rachel Carlson Pond. This is the famous lighthouse that is often used in calenders and postcards of Maine. I imagine it is really beautiful here. We could honestly not see the ocean that was ten feet in front of us. The fog was as thick as pea soup. We could hear boats traveling past us in the ocean and I am sure they were huge, but we could not see them. Also, it was very, very cold here this day. 60 degrees and windy. At home it was 88 degrees, sunny and humid. We were only about 60 miles away from our home, very strange how the weather can be so different on the coast. Lucy had a great time searching the freezing pond water for creatures like this little sea urchin she found. We found lots of baby lobsters, crabs, star fish, and a sea cucumber. We learned where this famous pond got its name. I guess a lady named Rachel Carlson came to this place in the 60's to write a book about the environment and how the use of chemicals to kill mosquitoes was also killing the eagles by making their egg shells so thin they would break before hatching. I guess her book was the beginnings of the environmental movement.

Softball Season

Brittany decided at the last minute she wanted to play softball. She walked onto the team after they had played a few games. She really enjoyed playing. She played first base, left field and shortstop. I love this pose at first base.

Lucy loves softball too. Her favorite position is catcher and second base. Hates outfield, not enough action. Brandon is missing from this group of pictures because he decided to lift weights to get ready for football in the fall. I asked if I could bring my camera to the gym and take a few lifting shots. Boy you should have seen the look that I got. So, no pictures of Brandon this spring. He still plays alot of basketball after school and with his Dad on Tuesday nights.

New Beginnings

This is Brittany's ENTIRE Young Womens group. Yes, that is 12-18 year old girls at our church. It is a very nice group and she has a good time with them. I know she wished there were more of them, but thank goodness for girls camp, stake activities and youth conference. They did a little skit where they came out as someone who was the opposite of a particular value. Brittany for example was good works, so she came out and was something totally opposite and had to read something about herself such as how she didn't see the need to help others.

People should be waiting on her after all she was a princess... etc... Then she had a change of attitude and read about herself having good works. It was very nice and I think she really learned alot about the Young Women values and why they are so important. Brittany tries hard and wants to do the right thing, but it is difficult when there are only two members of the church in the entire middle school of 600 students.

Cinderella

Lucy is dancing with Prince Charming. Lucy was not Cinderella, she was one of the ladies he did not choose to marry. I say he does not have very good taste! LOL! Lucy loved being a part of her first play. I could tell she was so proud of herself when it was through. Next year, as a fifth grader, she hopes to get one of the leading roles. Of course we are happy with whatever role she plays as long as she is having a good time and does her best.

Band Concert

Lucy has been learning to play the Saxophone in fourth grade. She had her first band concert in May. I thought she did very well. She practiced and practiced for this concert and it was nice to here the whole band instead of just Lucy's part.

Piano Recital

Glen has taken up the piano. He started last September and has really come a long way. He finished his first book and is almost through his second book. This May we got to listen to him play in front of an audience. I could not see his fingers from my seat, but I had him play is pieces again after everyone left, so I could take pictures of his little hands. Glen did very well and was all smiles as we clapped when each piece was finished. We are so proud of all he has learned and how hard he practices. Glen really loves playing the piano and he can't wait till he can play hard songs.
